your pregnancy and upcoming passage to motherhood with giggles, belly art and a traditional prenatal village blessing circle.
Pregnancy and motherhood in the modern world can be isolating and lonely. A long way away from the traditions of village life that our ancestors knew as normal, we are somehow busier than ever yet more separated from our family members and friends. Becoming pregnant and starting a family often exposes this and women yearn to feel more connected to those they love at this tender special time.
Village prenatal is a tradition I learned from a traditional midwife, Sister Morning star, a Cherokee native and catholic hermitess. Who shared with me the importance of holding space for pregnant women to be heard and honoured in pregnancy and to celebrate their transition into motherhood (not matter how many times we birth).
EXPECT An afternoon dedicated to YOU the mother to be nourished, honoured and given some much needed attention and pampering. Expect all female company, gathered in your lounge room or perhaps you might choose to find some nice accommodation in the country nestled by a fire if it is cold, or pool if it is hot! Delicious food and treats and some celebratory beverages to toast and enjoy. Lots of candles, flowers and aromas and plentiful pillows to lounge around very comfortably. As your Doula facilitating on the day I will lead one event into the next.
INCLUDES A women's circle will be facilitated and everyone is invited to participate in a way that is comfortable for them. A bead or trinket is given as a blessing to create a necklace for the birthing mother. Your friends are welcome to bring any other offerings such as poems, stories, personal gifts for yourself or your baby. It is an opportunity to show their love and appreciation to you. There are other activities included in this time which we can talk about further at the time of your enquiry. To close the circle we use a beautiful piece of yarn to tie around our wrists, binding our blessings for you and the baby uniting everyone together. This piece of string remains around everyone's wrist until you go into labour and give birth.
Belly ART This takes place after the circle. You may choose from a belly cast which is yours to keep and decorate as you wish. Or you can choose to have your belly painted and decorated. This is a beautiful option to follow on with laughs and photos with your beloved friends and family.
PAMPERING To conclude my visit but for you to continue celebrating with your friends. I leave you with a delicious foot bath full of fresh herbs, aromatic oils and ROSE petals if in season. It has been known that girlfriends attack the mother a this point massaging hands and feeding her with cake :)
